This weeks style inspiration is none other than Janelle Monae. I just love this ladies energy! She’s a different talent and it’s refreshing to the music industry. She wasn’t a cookie cutter talent when she was introduced to us; so already had her own brand.
She brings beauty, personality, energy, art, and talent. She in my opinion is what music is all about; my idea of what a #PowerHouse should be! She’s not afraid to be “Janelle Monae”! Furthermore I love her as one of the African-American faces of Covergirl. Her red lip is ALWAYS spot on! I am “Janelle Monae” inspired!
So I’ve been experimenting with non-department store brands to see if I can achieve the same results of well-known brand names. A lot of people are brand snobs when it comes to makeup. I was once was a believer that you could only achieve flawless makeup looks with
high-end products. WRONG!!!! I have easily combined department store brands and “drug-store” brand products. Don’t forget to add a winning smile that comes from within; because remember no matter what you put on the outside it can’t cover up what’s on the inside! Wishing everyone love, peace and an “inner glow”!
The products I used:
Face: Maybelline BB cream, MAC’s mineralize skin finish in Deep Dark and to reduce shine I used Ruby Kisses “HD Set N’Forget”
Under-eye concealer: MAC NC45 Select Coverup and Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles
*mascara: Loreal Voluminous Original
*eyeliner: Loreal Voluminous Smoldering eyeliner
*eyeshadow: Elf jumbo eyeshadow stick in #21631 Little Miss Thing, #2516 Peach Fizz and on the lower lash line I used CoverGirl “Flamed Out” shadow pencil
Eyebrows: MAC eyshadow in Corduroy and Spike eye pencil to fill in my brows and for the underneath highlight MAC NC45 studio finish concealer
Cheeks: MAC “Raizin” and as the cheek highlight MAC’s “Blush Baby”
Lips: Revlon lip gloss is “Snow Pink” #205 and “Super Natural” #215
Necklace: Forever 21
Earrings: Old Navy
Sunglasses: Forever 21
**Pardon this blurry photo had some camera malfunctions; but get a load of the face I’m serving**** Love the back of this dress super sexy yet sophisticated**** the neckline of the dress was pretty amazing; I couldn’t even find the proper name because the cut was so different from anything I’ve ever seen**So to say I was feeling girly this past weekend would be an understatement. There is something about a LBD that just makes every insecurity go away. I have been out of heels for a while (totally not my choice). I opted for high wedges to ease back into the groove, lol!
LDB: “ISSI” from TJMAXX
Floral Print Wedges: Target
Hair Scarf: “Merona” Target
Arm Party (layered gold braclets): Forever 21 and Target
Gold Earrings: Old Navy (actually quite sturdy)
Necklace: Forever 21
**Stay tuned for Part II of this post because I will focus on my makeup I wore, so don’t be alarmed if you see some similarities**
